Approach to Care
Barbara Forloney is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with extensive experience providing both psychotherapy and medication management. She brings a thoughtful, balanced approach that integrates the art and science of prescribing with a deep understanding of each individual’s unique needs.
Her work is grounded in person-centered care, supporting patients in achieving stability, improving quality of life, and navigating complex medical and mental health concerns with confidence and clarity.
Areas of Expertise
Barbara has significant expertise in working with older adults and individuals experiencing geriatric syndromes such as falls, polypharmacy, and delirium. She has also worked extensively with patients experiencing behavioral health conditions across a variety of care settings.
Her clinical experience includes acute care hospitals, assisted living and long-term care facilities, home care agencies, and inpatient psychiatric units, where she has treated individuals with complex and acute mental health needs.
Background & Experience
Barbara completed her undergraduate degree at Salve Regina University and earned graduate degrees in Psychiatry/Mental Health and Gerontology from the University of Rhode Island. She also holds a post-graduate certificate as an Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner.
She has maintained two private practices for over 10 years, providing comprehensive mental health care, including both therapy and medication management.
Teaching, Research & Community Work
Barbara has taught in undergraduate nursing programs and continues to serve as adjunct faculty at the University of Rhode Island. She has been invited to lecture in graduate programs at Rhode Island College and URI on topics such as comprehensive geriatric assessment, geriatric psychopharmacology, and identifying psychiatric conditions in primary care.
She has also participated in research related to mobility in older adults and delirium, and is passionate about community education, offering lectures on stress reduction, self-care, and advocacy.
