Gabriele Hughes is a board-certified Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who brings over 25 years of experience in private practice and a wide range of clinical settings. She offers both psychiatric medication management and psychotherapy, taking a collaborative and comprehensive approach to care.
Her work is grounded in building strong therapeutic relationships and working closely with clients—and when appropriate, multidisciplinary teams—to create effective, individualized treatment plans that support long-term stability and well-being.

Gabriele has extensive experience working with individuals experiencing severe, acute, and chronic psychiatric conditions. Her background includes work in hospitals, community mental health centers, correctional settings, and private practice, giving her a broad and well-rounded clinical perspective.
She has worked with patients in settings such as Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institutions, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs.
Integrative Training & Modalities
Gabriele’s training includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), neurofeedback, and integrative approaches such as Reiki and life coaching. She draws from these modalities as appropriate to support each individual’s unique needs and treatment goals.
Background, Teaching & Contributions
Gabriele received her training from the University of Rhode Island and completed her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner education at the University of Saint Joseph. She has also taught undergraduate nursing students at the University of Rhode Island and has been a guest speaker for the Rhode Island Student Assistance Program.
Her professional contributions include published work, such as her article “Understanding Depression and Anxiety in Celiac Patients” in the Rhode Island Nurse, as well as involvement in community organizations and volunteer work supporting bereavement services and domestic violence resources.
